Rational Software Achieves Significant Cost Savings with Managed Service Provider (MSP) Program
The Challenge
Rational Software, the leading provider of integrated software development solutions for more than 20 years, has helped software teams in companies worldwide to overcome development obstacles resulting in higher-impact software and a greater return on software development investments. Rational Software was looking to gain a larger return on investment by reducing the large number of staffing suppliers. There were over 90 staffing suppliers supporting Rational Software that were charging inconsistent rates across the board. The management of contract employees was inconsistent, from contract compliance to reporting and invoicing.
The Solution
The Rational Software management team researched multiple vendor management programs and selected Kelly IT Resources’ MSP program as the solution of choice based on the company’s experience and customer references. Kelly IT Resources®, a division of Kelly Services®, implemented a vendor management program in the U.S. and Canada, which included a total of 21 sites. A full assessment was conducted of Rational Software’s current requisition system, staffing process, vendor compliance process, and current management of suppliers. Kelly IT Resources made recommendations and developed a centralized staffing process.
Rational Software wanted assurance that the end users would not be disrupted during the implementation phase. Kelly IT Resources established vendor contracts with the top suppliers based on performance with Rational Software.
The Results
Rational Software gained more effective and consistent tracking with the newly implemented centralized staffing program. A consistent pricing model was established with all secondary suppliers. Cost savings were significant due to the reduction of more than 100 single paper invoices to one consolidated electronic invoice, and the reduction of more than 90 suppliers to 13 secondary suppliers for the program.
Rational Software receives an electronic usage report that outlines all contract staffing by department, allowing managers to forecast and budget more effectively. The management program and partnership with Kelly IT Resources enables Rational Software to capture key quality performance measures for both contract employees and suppliers, resulting in a more effective business process.
